What a spectacular opening weekend at Theatre on the River! The late September sun shone down on Battersea square and 17 enthusiastic budding actors flew into the building with energy, passion and spirit! New friends were made, new techniques were explored and interesting characters were brought to life. What fun we are all going to have in bringing the page to the stage!
‘Stage Stompers’ explored scenes from Narnia and learned how to move like specific characters, use facial expressions and the importance of team work in the theatre. This was combined with fun drama games which promote concentration, listening skills and movement technique. The boys and girls absolutely loved the studio; it made them feel like such professionals! The photos from the opening weekend clearly show how much they enjoyed the session!
The older group, Starlight Express, looked closely at some classic Roald Dahl characters and brought them to life with impressive realism. A lot of work this season will encourage young actors to analyse what motivates characters, actions and reactions, as well as their physicality (being able to move like their characters). This group bonded immediately; this was very pleasing considering their mix of ages and London schools – this bodes well for future performances and supports one of the most important philosophies of Theatre on the River: working as a team.
On Saturday 22nd September a signing in sheet will be in operation at the entrance to the studios, please remember to sign in as this is an important Health and Safety requirement. We will be welcoming Miss Lucy Bacon as assistant with ‘Stage Stompers’ from the 22nd September onwards.
Thank you all so much for making the opening such a huge success and I look forward to lots of wonderful Saturdays to come!
