Newsletter week 5

It was an absolute delight to tell our talented members today that we have secured a slot to perform at John Lewis during Christmas time. The work now begins in earnest so that we can show our very best to the shoppers of London! The department store is keen for us for future events too and has been waiting for something like us to come along! Exact details to follow once timings have been finalised.

Stage Stompers got into the festive spirit very early by exploring ways of bringing the famous 'we wish you a very merry Christmas' to life! This will be their performance piece and some of the older girls will learn, recite and act out a variety of Christmas poems

which capture the spirit of the season. The children are so delighted at this prospect and this will stretch them vocally and physically as they prepare to perform to a live audience. On the subject of physical theatre; the children performed some excellent scenes as the huge eagle who captures the witch in 'Narnia.' They learned how to move in slow motion and how to position their bodies to swoop. Impressive stuff!

Starlight Express members got straight down to work on rehearsing their scenes from 'A Christmas Carol.' Their scenes will focus on the the way Scrooge behaves before the visits from the ghosts and how he becomes a changed man towards the end. They will also mime a selection of still images based on the 2011 John Lewis advert which shows a child's selflessness and anticipation for Christmas day by counting down the hours until they can present their gift to their family. Very touching scenes and I know with the calibre of acting we have in this group, they will knock the socks off the audience! Let the line learning commence!
